A Southern Songwriter Without Borders
Blending heartfelt lyrics with modern sonic landscapes
Hello everyone,
My name is Robert Grubbs and I am from a small town in Arkansas but I currently live in Memphis, Tennessee. I am primarily a lyricist and I write a variety of music including, Pop, R&B, Soul, EDM, K-Pop and some Country music as well.
Music has always been a part of who I am. From growing up on country and gospel records to listening to the legendary sounds of Memphis radio station WDIA, I was surrounded by music that carried emotion, storytelling, and soul. Those early influences continue to shape the music I create today. As a BMI songwriter since 1987, my journey in music began with the release of my R&B/disco single, “Has Somebody Else Been Loving You." While I’ve always considered myself primarily a lyricist, songwriting has never been just about words for me — it’s about capturing human emotion in its rawest form. After experiencing the challenges and disappointments that often come with breaking into the music industry, I stepped away from music for a period of time. But creativity never truly leaves you. Today, I’m building a new catalog of music that reflects both where I’ve been and where I’m headed creatively — blending timeless songwriting with modern production influences drawn from pop, R&B, electronic music, indie dance, and beyond. I believe great music should make people feel something, and that remains at the heart of everything I write. I’ve always loved songwriting, and now feels like the right time to fully embrace it again. More than ever, music has the power to connect people across cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. I’m excited to continue evolving as a songwriter and artist while creating music that feels both fresh and emotionally authentic.
I would like to hear from you and about your music. Please contact me at anytime.
